Welcome

Welcome to Burghclere Primary School!

Burghclere Primary School is a small rural school in the village of Burghclere with a happy, inclusive, nurturing environment where everyone is learning, growing and succeeding together, so that they have the skills and values to make a positive difference to their communities in an ever-changing world.

We are surrounded by beautiful countryside and this is reflected in the outdoor learning spaces we have, which include a large playing field, playground, woodland adventure playground, garden and outdoor learning environment with a fire-pit, bug hotel and chickens. Our school building has a large hall, a cosy library, a space for our after-school club and four spacious classrooms for the following year groups: Year R, Year 1/2, Year 3/4 and Year 5/6. Each classroom has an interactive whiteboard and resources to support the teaching and learning appropriate to the age group. Our EYFS classroom has a large outdoor space which includes a sandpit, a nature kitchen, a stage and space for construction and water play- and so much more! We are very proud of our inclusive environment which is adapted to meet the needs of all our children.

We offer a rich broad curriculum which not only meets the requirements of the national curriculum, giving children the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the next stage of their learning, but offers unique opportunities which give each child the chance to develop the values and confidence to become global citizens who want to make a positive difference to their communities. These extra opportunities in our curriculum include Muddy Monday outdoor learning afternoons, small group tuition to play a brass instrument, and, as part of our work with the JDO Foundation, collaboration projects with schools across the world through the use of technology - making our children true global citizens!

We also offer a wide range of other opportunities for our children. These include lunchtime and after-school clubs such as running, football, art, choir, nature ninjas and netball. We have a school council and Junior Road Safety Officers who lead initiatives and fund-raising activities across the school. Our Year 6 pupils all have a leadership role, such as play leaders, music maestros, librarians and house captains - who organise house competitions and take the lead in collaborative house projects. We have a brass band who play at the church, school celebrations and wider community events such as the Newbury spring festival at the Corn Exchange theatre. Our children perform at the O2 arena in London as part of the Young Voices choir. Our Y5/6 children enjoy a weeks long residential at a PGL centre - one of many visits and trips they have.

This website aims to give you a taste of our wonderful primary school, as well as providing important information for both parents and pupils.

I hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find the information you are looking for. If you have any further questions or, even better, would like to see our school in action, please contact the school office at adminoffice@burghclere.hants.sch.uk
